Notes from Production Meeting: 07 February 2013
Having received a reply from SWFC to say that Paul Gregory (Tango Man) was willing to be involved in the documentary Hannah, Luke and myself met to put down a brief outline of the films that we could send to Tango Man.
We agreed on a synopsis, storyboards and shot lists, and questions to send him. Obviously Jacob and Joe were in Berlin at the time of the meeting but I am encouraging them to have an input into this too. We just needed something to send Tango Man in the meantime.
These are the initial (very rough) storyboards that we came up with at the meeting. These will change and develop but this is a good basis for us to start from:
Here are the synopsis of each film, again just a basic starting point:
Two Minute Poetic: Working Title 'Also Known As'
Ordinary, casually dressed man walking down street, narrator tells of man's ordinary job, family life, interests etc. As the camera pulls out he is walking towards Hillsborough football ground. He turns round to face camera and stands with SWFC stadium emblem in background, title slide: AKA Tango Man.
Montage of Tango Man in action on the stands, crowd scenes, long shots of fans streaming into stadium turnstiles, crowd chanting Tango Man, interspersed with actual headlines of Tango Man and with The Band music playing over the top of the film. Pace slows to Tango Man sat alone in the stadium, long shots of stadium from cliff, atmospheric shots of empty stadium between the terraced houses and from Hillsborough Park, shot of the stadium pitchside clock that can be seen from road, footage of Tango Man walking away from empty stadium in casual clothes, back to his ordinary life.
Ten Minute Documentary: Working Title: 'Tango Man'
Title slide. Tango Man at home with family doing ordinary household chores, interview in garden or at kitchen table asking about homelife, where he lives, where he's from etc. Ask about work, over work related answers show footage of him at work, back to kitchen table, talk about interests, leads into football and questions about him being Tango Man. Show headlines and video footage of Tango Man at match. How did it all start? What reaction does he get from home and away fans? Obviously enjoys himself and has become a local personality.
Get soundbites from his friends Star sports reporter and his friends.
Ask Tango Man about his routine on matchdays, getting ready, travelling. Follow Tango Man as he travels to match (coach, train, car?).
Footage of inside ground on matchday, shirt off and singing. Soundbite from SWFC and other fans (home and away).
Footage of stadium from outside of ground with clock showing end of match. Long shot of ground as spectators leave.
Footage of Tango Man in empty stadium, in casual clothes.
Atmospheric shots of stadium as evening draws in.
These synopsis will be amended as the idea develops but they contain the shots that we want Paul Gregory to feature in and from this I can make the shot lists and arrange his availability for filming.
Prior to the Meeting Hannah wrote up some really useful documents; a to do list, fixture list and a list of questions which we discussion in the meeting:
