Jacob (camera), Luke (sound), Hannah (director) and I (producer) met at 1330 and made our way to Hillsborough Park to set up ready to interview John Hemmingham from the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Band. He also agreed to play his trumpet for us, all filmed in front of the main building entrance at Hillsborough.
I have been in regular contact with John and arranged date, time and contribution with him.
The interview went really well. John said that he has done a lot of TV interviews what with the band now being the official England Football team band. He was very good at answering the questions and had no qualms about playing his trumpet in the park in front of people. We did draw some attention from people in the park but everyone was really friendly, asking what we were up to and a lot of them recognised John. All in all it was a very good atmosphere, and hopefully that will come over in the interview.
After the park we went to meet Paul Gregory at the Hillsborough Club to re-shoot the interview from last week. We set up outside the club this time as the weather was nice and it was bright. We spent some time trying different angles to get the sign above the door in shot but in the end I wasn't happy with it and Hannah as director wasn't too sure so we had a re-think and set up the interview at a table in the beer garden / smoking area where it was off to the side and quiet. The background was now an old wall with a small Hillsborough Club sign on it. I think it will work. We had Paul have his pint in front of him as we interviewed him so you could tell it was a pub garden.
This time he answered the questions more fully and introduced himself, as Joe (editor) had requested we have him do.
After the interview was completed we moved to outside the football ground to get crowd shots, then put the Sony Z1 camera and tripod, and the sound equipment and my production bag in the car and went into the ground with HD Flip cameras and a DSLR.
We sat in the kop for the first half, filming Tango Man at pertinent points during the match, then at half time Hannah and I went to stay with the Band and get close ups of them performing during the second half, while Luke and Jacob went to stand with Tango Man to get close ups.
I am looking forward to seeing the rushes from Saturday's filming as the interview with John in the park (and his trumpet playing) looked really good on the camera monitor, and I am keen to see Jacob's footage of Tango Man in action!
